Sponsorships at the Wilson Trophy
“I know that the facilities at West Kirby Sailing Club . . . provide a magnificent venue and the club has a wealth of experience in running prestigious team-racing events, notably the annual Wilson Trophy and the inaugural world team-racing world championship in 1995”
- HRH The Princess Royal, President of the RYA*
The Wilson Trophy is a truly international sporting event. It’s so popular the number of overseas teams has to be limited so that UK’s teams aren’t squeezed out. Sailors fly literally from the other side of the world (there is an entry from New Zealand this year) for a mere weekend’s sailing.
There are two groups of people attracted to the event in some way and exposed to sponsors’ messages:
- Locally, spectators brought to the event by publicity in the local media in addition to the casual thousands to whom West Kirby promenade is a frequent day out over a weekend.
- Regionally, nationally and internationally, tens of thousands of sailors to whom the event is an interest every year. The ongoing results over the weekend (when up to 300 races may be sailed before the champion emerges) are posted to the event website every 60 seconds and during the event over 30,000 visitors check the site. In addition, the build-up to the event and reports of it are covered in all media outlets.
There are many pages of information about available sponsorship opportunities on the event's website. Use this link to go directly to the Wilson Sponsorship Home page.
