Footfalls
The event is held on an artificial lake built onto the foreshore at West Kirby. The area of the lake used is limited to the right of the 270m measurement line in the picture with the actual course area about the size of a football pitch. Spectators can watch from the promenade and the walkway (wide enough to take a vehicle) along the top of the wall forming the lake.

An important factor in determining attendance at the Wilson Trophy is that we can’t charge for admittance. The lake with its proximity to the lake and its stunning view across the Dee Estuary to the Welsh hills is a strong local attraction and there are always crowds taking walks along the promenade and along the lake wall. These normal crowds are increased on a Wilson Trophy weekend by the pre-publicity surrounding the event.
The only "official" footfall figures we have were supplied by Wirral Borough Council when they estimated the crowds numbered 5,000 during one day of the event in 2005.
We therefore conservatively estimate the attendance over three days will be in excess of 10,000.
