Lark facts and figures

What is the LARK?

One of the fastest non-trapeze sailing dinghies around

How many CREW?

It takes TWO; one Helm and one Crew

What WEIGHT of crew?

It handles a wide range of combined crew weight - from 18 to 25 stone

How many SAILS?

Three sails; main, jib & spinnaker (the pretty coloured one)

What is the SIZE of the SAILS?

It carries a sail area of 9.75 square metres upwind
and also a spinnaker of 7.4 square metres when running down wind

How LONG is it?

It is  4m / 4063mm / 13 feet  4 inches in length

How HEAVY is it?

The hull weight (with fittings) is 95kg / 210 lbs

How EASY is it to sail?

Requires “intermediate” level of skill (not really for beginners)

Who DESIGNED it?

Michael Jackson in 1966…no not that one

Who MAKES it?

Ovington Boats have recently taken over from Rondar, with earlier Larks made by  G. W. Parker and the first (older) ones made by Baker

How MANY?

Over 2500+ in the UK; more than half a dozen at WKSC

Where can you SAIL your Lark?

On West Kirby marine lake and in the Dee Estuary.

 

There is also a very active LARK National Class Association with a very competitive open meeting circuit, with high quality racing all over the UK
