How do I get started?
Find out how you can get started on your Lark adventure:
- There are several Larks currently sailing and racing at West Kirby, and the crews would be very happy to introduce you to the class
- We can arrange taster sessions with one of the established boats, and have plans to run a “Try a Lark” session in next year’s season where you can have a go
- You can ask about crewing for one or more of the Larks, which is a great way of trying different boats, different helms and learning about the Lark before taking the plunge yourself
- We can also help you if you wish to buy a Lark; any of the team will be happy to show you around their boats and give you advice.
- You don’t have to break the bank if buying a Lark; second-hand ones can range from £500 for one that perhaps needs some TLC, to £1000 for a good quality second-hand boat. Of course you can splash out several thousand if you want on a new one! There is a fair amount of second hand gear available via the Lark National Class Association website and the internet.
- If you are a beginner to sailing, don’t worry; your best bet is to get yourself on a sailing course to learn the basics, get some sailing time under your belt, then come back and see us.
