The Illusion OD singlehanded keelboat is based on a scaled down (12 foot) version of "Lionheart" the British America's Cup contender. The Illusion was designed by Jo Richards and Neil Graham in 1981 to provide close tactical racing for Solent based yachting stars during the winter. Like any keelboat the Illusion has a ballast keel so capsizing is not an issue - additional lead is added so that every helm's weight is equalised at 100 kilos ( or, we admit. often a little more - the monthly Illusion lunches during the winter are famous for generous helpings ). Secondhand Illusions can be a little difficult to find but new boats are built by Advance Marine Structures on the Isle of Wight to a very high standard at a competitive price.
